Back To GEDC Focus Centers
Beyond the mobile communication and wireless
LAN that we are enjoying today, the evolution of
RFID/wireless sensor and personal area network
are promising to bring the ubiquitous wireless
network in our every day life. Under this concept, electronic devices, consumer products and users
will share such information as product information,
quantized physical parameters from sensors, or
personal data via embedded wireless nodes. The
concept of ubiquitous networks has been accepted as
a driving force of the future communications systems,
and RFID and wireless sensor products are actively
being developed by the world's major companies.
GEDC is involved in relevant research activities
with several of the industry leaders in the rapidly
expanding area, including Georgia's Maritime Logistics Innovation Center.
GEDC's RFID/wireless sensor technology will accelerate the
growth of these research relationships, catalyze
the establishment of significant new activities with other
industry leaders, and allow us to support local startup
companies in their product development and
testing.
RFID/wireless sensor technology at GEDC
is composed of five parts:
- test facilities for wireless sensors and RFID in various rugged environments;
- functional demonstration of the ICs and integrated prototype
modules of wireless sensor/RFIDs;
- investigation of paper-based materials for extremely low-cost RFID/sensor;
- implementation of miniaturized printed batteries and other compact energy-scavenging approaches;
- demonstration of the wireless sensor networks.
