The Future of RF

GEDC Industry Advisory Board Speakers Discuss RF Issues for Next-Generation Technologies

At the Georgia Electronic Design Center (GEDC), Georgia Tech researchers (professors, staff and students) form teams that perform world-class mixed-signal research, including the development of wireless/RF, high speed wired and sensor network applications.

To make this happen, GEDC partners with top international companies. In the past year, Samsung, Pirelli North America and Siemens/Nokia have all established laboratories at our Atlanta headquarters and are working with us as direct research partners.

These companies and nearly 50 other industry and government partners collaborate with us in many developing areas which are focused upon physical layer innovation which improves the system level performance. Specific projects include: cognitive networks, gigabit wireless multimedia distribution, low power adaptive sensors, adaptive high speed network interfaces, millimeter wave RADAR systems, multi-band RFID networks, and collaborative signal processing technologies. Funding comes from DARPA, NASA and NSF as well as industry and the State of Georgia.

Our cutting-edge facilities – located in Georgia Tech’s Technology Square Research Building -- include testbeds for RFID/Sensor Technology, Multi Gigabit Wireless, Agile Optical, Cognitive Radio, and Mixed Signal research.

Our technology roadmap calls for the GEDC to continue to be a leader in the convergence of wireless and wired technologies for a variety of low-power, high throughput, adaptive multi-media and data content scenarios.

Our job is to perform world-class research and to train world-class engineers. We’re making sure our members and partners reap the benefits -- today and in the coming years.
