Through the Georgia Electronic Design Center (GEDC), member companies participate in broadband communications research and share in the resulting opportunities. The goals are to stimulate the commercialization of GEDC-developed technology and to improve the time to market for research ideas.

GEDC's Commercialization Program has funding available for commercialization of research. The program is available only to GEDC member companies. The objectives of the program are to stimulate the commercialization of GEDC-developed technology, improve the time-to-market for research ideas, create jobs in Georgia, further distinguish Georgia within the telecommunications industry, and encourage researchers to think and act in regards to commercialization.

A commercialization project based on GEDC-sponsored intellectual property is defined with member companies' technical and financial participation. The member company matches GEDC funds at a minimum ratio of 2:1, where up to 50 percent of the match may be "in-kind" contributions. The projects are expected to be one to two years in duration, and may be renewable upon review.
